Social media is stressful
We are living in a culture where the term “phubbing” is
used as a trendy way to try and describe our new reality. To be a successful
and memorable brand, grabbing the attention of consumers using social media
platforms is essential. According to Chris Palliser keeping up with the demand
of social media is “stressful” and like having “another job” on top of all his
other responsibilities. Chris Palliser spends most of his time entertaining
local Victoria residents as an energetic morning host on Virgin Radio. Born and
raised in Saanich BC, Chris is grateful to be raising his family in a city he
loves, while working at his dream job. Palliser came to speak about his job as
a radio host and the realities of what entertaining the masses using social
media can be like.
To stay competitive, big corporations not only need to
keep on top social media trends but be proficient and genuine while doing it.
Posting entertaining and engaging content every day is no easy task. Palliser
explained in his lecture how he and his team tried to capitalize on the social
media platform Tik Tok, however, by the time all the red tape was cut 3 months
had passed, and the internet was moving on. “I think when you have such a big
organization it’s hard to get it all out consistently and have everybody on the
same platform...they want every Virgin brand to be local cause that’s how you
win” states Palliser. The radio industry like most other markets all benefit
massively from the marketing power of instant feedback. The constant demand, “It
is truly never ending...that’s why again I’m pushing for them to hire somebody
that can just to do the social media and be apart of the show...its my personal
plea”, said Palliser.
